Canterbury

Newer custom homes on quiet courts high on the slope.

The Short Version

Canterbury is one of the newer British Properties neighbourhoods, developed in the 1990s on the upper slopes. Its homes sit on quiet courts and crescents like Errigal Place, Chippendale Court and Pinecrest Drive.

It's almost entirely large detached homes on generous lots, and from time to time a vacant building lot comes up for buyers who want to build their own.

What You're Buying

What sets Canterbury apart

The assets, the trade-offs and the details worth checking before you make an offer.

Newer Homes

Less to update, more to enjoy.

The Asset

Homes built from the 1990s onward, with more modern layouts, systems and construction than much of the older hillside.

Analyst Note

Newer doesn't mean problem-free. Homes from the 1990s can still have building envelope or roofing issues, so a thorough inspection matters as much here as anywhere.

Building Your Own

Occasional vacant lots.

The Asset

Canterbury is one of the few West Vancouver neighbourhoods where serviced building lots still come up from time to time.

Analyst Note

On a hillside lot, site work can be a large share of the budget. Get geotechnical advice, confirm services and review the building scheme before you firm up an offer.

Design Rules on Title

Consistency by design.

The Asset

Canterbury was built under design guidelines that keep the neighbourhood's look and views consistent.

Analyst Note

Many British Properties lots carry a building scheme or restrictive covenants on title, on top of municipal zoning, and these can control things like height, siting, view corridors and landscaping. Review the title and any registered scheme before you plan a renovation, rebuild or second unit.

"Canterbury suits buyers who want a newer home on the hillside without starting from scratch. And when a lot comes up, it's a rare chance to build in an established neighbourhood."

Schools

Schools in and near Canterbury

Catchments are set by address, not by neighbourhood, so treat this as a starting point.

Elementary Elementary Schools

Several West Vancouver elementary schools serve the upper slopes. Which one depends on the exact address.

Secondary Secondary Schools

Depending on the address, students attend Sentinel Secondary or another district secondary school.

Analyst Note

West Vancouver's catchments don't follow sub-area lines, and on the hillside two homes a street apart can fall in different catchments. Confirm the exact address in the West Vancouver Schools School Locator. Programmes like IB and French Immersion have their own enrolment process and limited space.

The Numbers

The Canterbury market

Canterbury is a small sub-area with large homes and the odd lot sale, so averages can mislead. Start with the British Properties area snapshot, or ask me for a property-specific comparable analysis.
