British Properties
West Vancouver's planned hillside, with the views to match.
The Short Version
The British Properties began in 1931, when investors tied to the Guinness family bought the land and agreed to build the Lions Gate Bridge as part of the deal. The result is a planned hillside of curving roads, large lots and long views over the harbour, the city and the Strait.
Most of the homes went up between the mid-1950s and mid-1980s, so the area mixes original West Coast modern houses with newer custom builds. Glenmore, Canterbury, Chartwell and Chelsea Park are pockets within the same slope.

What You're Buying
What sets British Properties apart
The assets, the trade-offs and the details worth checking before you make an offer.
Lots and Views
The view is the asset. The house is often the variable.
Large, often sloping lots with harbour, city and ocean views, along winding roads originally landscaped by the Olmsted Brothers.
Steep driveways, retaining walls and winter conditions at higher elevations come with ownership here. Budget for them in your inspection and your running costs.
Renovate or Rebuild
Much of the housing stock is now 40 to 70 years old.
Many purchases come down to updating a mid-century home or starting fresh on a well-sited lot.
Some British Properties lots carry registered covenants or building schemes on title in addition to municipal zoning. Before planning a rebuild, review the title and confirm what can actually be built.
Golf, Schools and Quiet Streets
Residential through and through.
Capilano Golf and Country Club and Hollyburn Country Club are in the area, and Chartwell Elementary and Sentinel Secondary sit side by side on Chartwell Drive.
There's no village. Groceries and errands mean a drive down to Park Royal or Ambleside.

West Vancouver's school catchments don't follow neighbourhood names or MLS® sub-area lines, and two homes on the same street can sit in different catchments. Before you fall for a listing, check the exact address in the West Vancouver Schools School Locator. Grades 1 to 12 admission is limited to in-catchment students, so the address matters.
